Syrah - 2023

This Syrah delivers a brooding, full-bodied profile with remarkable depth and complexity. Aromatically intense, it opens with layers of dark spice, cedarwood, and a hint of fresh mint, offering both warmth and lift. On the palate, rich flavors of plum sauce and black fruit unfold slowly, framed by soft, supple tannins that give the wine a plush texture without sacrificing structure. Notes of cracked pepper and earthy spice linger on a long, savory finish. Moody yet approachable, this Syrah captures the grape’s darker personality while remaining polished and beautifully balanced.

Winemaker's Notes

A soul-warming staple here at Three Hammers since 2018, this particular Syrah captures the essence of a truly exceptional vintage. This wine showcases a fantastic finesse with a silky-smooth mouthfeel, showcasing impressive depth and a mouth-watering acidity. 2023 was defined by a long, cool growing season that delivered lower yields but grapes with remarkable concentration and maturity. This long hang time allowed for the development of complex flavors and integrated tannins while retaining a bright acidity—a hallmark of a truly successful vintage. To add complexity, this wine was aged in both French and Hungarian oak. We chose the Hungarian oak for its ability to express spice notes that perfectly complement the wine's rich, brooding profile. The result is a wine with a long, captivating finish that may just be the best Syrah we have ever made. Drink window: 2025-2033.
