2019 Grenache is Finally Here!

30th Jul 2020 @ 14:10 by Chris@ThreeHammersWinery.com

The Grenache grape is one of the most versatile and widely grown grapes throughout the world. Because it requires a long growing season to ripen, this varietal does best in the regions of Southern France, California, Washington State, Sardinia and Northern Spain (where it likely originated). Although there are numerous variations of the Grenache grape, the one most frequently seen and recognized is the red or noir variation. You can also find the grape in blanc and a gris as well.

For our 2019 Grenache, we sourced our beautiful fruit from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. We were very lucky in the fact that Washington State had a phenomenal growing season with excellent weather in 2019. We took our time developing the fruit and aging it in our medium toast French Oak barrels for nine months. Thus, producing an absolutely wonderful light Pinot Noir-esque wine with a distinctly floral nose and a very complex tasting profile. On the nose, we caught very delicate violet notes with a dense dark fruit and a hint of spice. To the taste, a soft mouth feel with savory, yet subtle fruit notes of strawberry and raspberries and a bold Szechuan pepper finish with low acidity.

This Grenache will pair beautifully with many of your summer favorites and carry well into the fall and winter months. With grilling season in full swing, you can look forward to this medium bodied Grenache pairing wonderfully with many of the things you've been cooking all summer long. A nicely seasoned grilled fish, grilled shrimp skewers, grilled veggies or my personal favorite, a rare skirt steak with chimichurri. Once the cooler months start to set in, you'll be glad you cellared a couple bottles of our 2019 Grenache, because the pairing options will only keep getting better from there. Perhaps a belly warming stew, a rich cheese platter with all your favorite accompaniments or one of countless spicy dishes like Korean, Szechuan, or Mexican( I'm thinking carne asada with seasoned rice and a bold homemade Pico de Gallo).

This is a versatile all around wine for seasonal food pairings or just sipping on a quiet evening with friends and family. It will age wonderfully and continue to build in complexity as time goes on. No cellar is complete without a couple bottles of our 2019 Grenache. Don't miss out!

Whitehall Trail is now Open!

We are very excited to announce that with the opening of the winery grounds on June 5th, our Whitehall Trail is open and ready for you to enjoy. This is the perfect opportunity to experience nature in Northeast Penn. A beautifully groomed 1/3 mile trail winding around the winery grounds will give you a feeling of complete immersion into nature. Birds chirping, the wind blowing between the trees, and a relaxing sense of calm are some of the sensations you might feel when strolling the path. Trail markers guide you from our iconic windmill, through the winding wood and across West Falls Creek back to the homestead that started it all. Crossing the Whitehall house bridge opens all opportunities of outdoor relaxation. Pull up a chair and relax under our 400 year old oak, or tuck yourself away by the house pond on our Adirondack chair. No matter how adventurous you'd like to get, or how relaxed you'd like to feel, our grounds welcome you home. Grab a glass, pull up a chair and enjoy making memories with family and friends.

Summer Whites have Arrived!

3rd Jun 2020 @ 16:41 by Chris@ThreeHammersWinery.com

Hello Friends,

Firstly, THANK YOU for all your support during these last few months. We truly appreciate your supporting our small business and our passion for making great craft wine. It is on that note, that we are pleased to present to you our newest release of white wines, just in time for summer!

Presenting, our 2019 Dry Riesling, 2019 Off-Dry Riesling and our 2019 Gruner Veltliner. Here’s a little bit about them...

2019 Dry Riesling has intense flavors of lime, honeydew melon, and candied tangerine peels penetrate through this zippy and light-footed Riesling. The mouth-watering acidity is beautifully balanced by flavorful Washington Riesling fruit. It’s gorgeously ripe and honeyed but balanced by streaks of lime acidity and crisp apple. A gentle powdered-stone texture lingers on the close leading to another sip after sip. (95 Cases Produced)

2019 Off-dry Riesling offers ripe fruit flavors with a bit of juicy acidity and a very bold mouth feel. Rich green apple and peach notes compliment a sweet and savory finish with a light amber polished color. Brings back memories of grandma’s baked apple pie. It’s simple, fresh and fruity. It’s just plain good! (116 Cases Produced)

2019 Grüner Veltliner is an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. A hint of ripe red apple plays alongside peach on the nose, projecting both ripeness and freshness. The palate also plays this dual theme, where freshness is accentuated by breezy citrus zestiness. A wonderfully textured mouthfeel with a salty, sage-accented and yellow pear flavor projects a backdrop to the fruit and guarantees length. (113 Cases Produced)

We can't wait to hear what you think!

Stay safe, stay healthy and again, thank you again for supporting our small business.

Your friends at Three Hammers Winery,

2019 Rose & 2018 Chardonel Release

3rd Jun 2020 @ 16:24 by Chris@ThreeHammersWinery.com

It’s hard to believe that almost two months have passed since we closed our tasting room to the public. During that time, the 3H team has worked tirelessly to implement new ideas, shift job responsibilities, and completely alter our business model. As we closely monitor current government rules and regulations, we will notify you all of what this summer will look like at Three Hammers Winery.

Our small group of employees and ownership has been working tirelessly towards creating the goal of fun wine experiences in the safest environment possible. We have invested in additional outdoor furniture, cleared trees and brush on the property to increase overall space and to allow for maximum pond views and access to nature trails.

During these challenging times, we have made a point to take social distancing very seriously, while ensuring the overall quality of the winery, and the winery experience would not decrease. Your safety and health is of the utmost importance to all of us at 3H. Your safety, health and of course providing you with great wine is our mission.

Speaking of great wine, we are super excited to offer you our new Rosé and Chardonel! This second vintage of Rosé hits all the marks! It’s a dry and crisp blend of Grüner Veltliner and Grenache fruit from Washington State with notes of strawberry and melon. This easy-drinking wine is that go-to bottle you'll be grabbing for afternoons by the pool, the lake, family picnics, and relaxing evenings with good friends. Chardonel is a medium-bodied white varietal produced dry, exhibiting great acidity and a ripe fruit profile due to Virginia’s warm, sunny climate. This Chardonel could be mistaken for a West Coast Chardonnay, with lush tropical fruit, gala apples, pear and hints of lime. Chardonel complements a diverse range of foods from tapas to fish and shellfish, pork, chicken and even grilled vegetables.

We have been posting various updates in and around the winery on our Facebook and Instagram pages. If you haven’t signed up we encourage you to do so! Don’t forget to share your images with #threehammerswinery so we can check out your excellent posts! When the time comes (perhaps sometime this summer?), I’d love nothing more than to enjoy a glass of wine with you on our patio and on our beautiful natural grounds.

We are so grateful for your continued support and wish you and your family continued safety & happiness.

Rob, Christine and the rest of the Three Hammers Team
